Are You Hydrating Correctly? The Importance of Good Hydration

We all know that it is important to take in enough fluids. This is especially true when it comes to drinking water – at least that’s what most of us think. While there’s no question that good hydration by drinking water is important, you are like most of us there are some hydration mistakes you are likely making. You may not even realize it. If you want to make sure you are getting the right amount of water, you’ll want to make sure you aren’t making these mistakes.

Mistake #1 Making Sure You Drink 8 Glasses of Water

You’ve heard it over and over – you need to drink 8 glasses of water. Well, it’s time to forget what you have been previously told. According to the Institute of Medicine what you need is 11.4 cups a day. The amount of water you need will vary depending on your weight and size, and you will also get H2O from some of the fruits and vegetables you eat, so it doesn’t mean you have to actually drink 11.4 cups a day. To determine how much water you actually need, take your weight and divide by 2 and that’s roughly the ounces you need to take in every day.

Mistake #2 Not Drinking Water Prior to Your Workout

We commonly sip on water during our workout, but what most of us don’t do is drink enough water prior to our workout. This can result in you suffering from headaches during your workout if you are not properly hydrated. Many trainers recommend you drink at least 8 ounces of water around 30 minutes before your workout.

Mistake #3 Avoiding Caffeine Products Like Coffee & Tea

It is a common misconception that caffeine products like coffee and tea will dehydrate you. This is nothing but a myth. Yes, it can act as a diuretic, which can cause fluid loss, but it’s not going to dehydrate you and it’s much better than drinking no fluids, so sip away.

Mistake #4 Not Hydrating Often Enough

If you feel thirsty you need to drink. However, you also need to drink when you don’t feel thirsty. Usually by the time you feel thirsty you are dehydrated. When you exercise or when it’s hot outside you need to hydrate. But you also need to hydrate when you are sitting at your desk. Not drinking enough water can lead to UTI’s and kidney stones.

Making sure you are hydrated properly can actually keep you looking younger. When you are hydrated your skin has fewer wrinkles, is fuller and you look more youthful. In fact, if you combine an HGH supplement with adequate hydration you can really turn back time. HGH supplements help the pituitary gland to increase HGH production, which helps with many things, especially reducing the signs of aging. Check out the advantages of taking an HGH supplement.

Well, that was a little off topic, but definitely useful information! It’s important to make sure that you are hydrated at all times, because not being hydrated can lead to a host of symptoms such as dry mouth, sleepiness, headaches, fatigue, confusion, dizziness, lightheadedness, and extreme thirst.
